4-H Youth Program

Membership and Enrollment Requirements

Membership is open to youths in the first grade by January 1 of the current 4-H year, through those in the 12th grade or who have not reached their 19th birthday before January 1 of the current
4-H year. The 4-H year is October 1 through September 30.

EXCEPTIONS:

1. Members must be in the 3rd grade AND have reached their 8th birthday by January 1 of the current 4-H year to be eligible for:

  • enrollment in large animal projects including beef, dairy, goat, equine, sheep, llama, and swine.

    (1st and 2nd grade members may enroll in pygmy goat and horseless horse projects.)

  • competitive situations, including livestock shows or sales.

  • enrollment in food preservation projects using hot water bath or pressure canning methods.

  • enrollment in projects using firearms or motorized vehicles.

2. Out-of-county (or state) residents

3. Special education youths older than 19 may enroll with approval of county 4-H agent.


GRADE DIVISIONS

    Primary: 1st - 2nd grade
 
  Junior: 3rd - 5th
    Intermediate: 6th - 8th
    Senior: 9th - 12th

ENROLLMENT AND RE-ENROLLMENT DEADLINE

The deadline for new and returning members who wish to exhibit/participate in 4-H during the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days is March 15. A member must be enrolled by March 15 in each of the projects he/she wishes to exhibit at the Walla Walla Fair.

Re-enrollment for continuing members and leaders is required each year. Members and leaders should be re-enrolled for the new 4-H year no later than January 1 to remain on the 4-H mailing list. See Forms, Applications, Nominations.

WSU Extension programs and policies are consistent with federal and state laws and regulations on nondiscrimination regarding race, color, gender, national origin, religion, age, disability, and sexual orientation.
