Types of Leaders: See Ways to Volunteer

  • General leader of a club
  • Project leader
  • Activity leader
  • Resource leader for a club
  • Resource leader for the county

Leader Requirements:

  • An adult leader must be 18 years old and not an enrolled 4-H member.
  • Potential 4-H leaders apply by completing the WSU 4-H Volunteer Application Forms, Part A and Part B, and a Walla Walla County 4-H Leader Enrollment Form.  Please see Appendix A for definitions for applicant background disclosure questions in Part B.
  • All new Extension volunteers who work with youth, including host family members and chaperones will be screened. Re-screening may be conducted at any time.
  • Volunteers must sign and abide by, the behavioral guidelines in C1000, A Valuable Partnership
  • All new leaders must complete appropriate training their first year based on the volunteer training modules. Leaders also need to complete training sessions on giving presentations and record keeping as they become available.
  • Volunteers are expected to be familiar with C1001, Child Abuse: Information for Washinfton State University Extension Faculty, Staff & Volunteers, and disclosure and reporting procedures.
  • Individuals starting new clubs or taking over leadership of an existing club must complete the C0747, Request to Use the 4-H Name & Emblem
  • Leaders must attend the required number of 4-H Leaders' Council meetings - usually held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday each month in the Extension office meeting room.  "All clubs must have a representative leader (general, project, or resource leader) attend at least 5 council meetings during the 4-H year to maintain status as an active 4-H club.  Exception will be made for single leader or single family clubs who will be required to attend at least 3 meetings."

Club Requirements for Leaders:

  • All clubs must have a representative leader (general, project, or resource) attend at least five neetings during the year in order to maintain status as an active club. Exceptions will be made for a single leader or single family club, who will be required to attend at least three meetings during the year in order to maintain status as an active club.
  • Each club must have on file at the Extention office a completed copy of C0747, Request to Use the 4-H Name and Emblem signed by the current club leader.
